Gravel

Things to be aware of.

Color variations may occur, especially when matching to preexisting gravel installed 10+ years ago. As natural granite veins age, the material's color and shade can change over time.

During processing in our yard, dust will settle onto the rocks, temporarily changing appearance. After grabbing a sample, getting a delivery, or after installation the rock will need to be rinsed off for better color clarity.

If you do not see the style you are looking for and need 12+ tons, we can special order most sizes, grades of material, or colors located in Arizona.

Calculate how much rock is required for the job.

1) Measure the length and width of your lawn in feet. Then, multiply the length by the width to get the total square footage (SQ FT). If multiple sections, add together after multiplying.
2) Identify the granite size required, then, divide against your total SQ FT.
3) Solving how many tons are required, but always round to the closest ton. â€‹

Industry standard for a space that does not have preexisting rock is installed at a 2" depth.

Most granite types have various percentages of smaller rocks called minus or fines.

Grades of Material:

  • Minus (mn) contains 60% up to 80% fines.

  • Screened (scr) contains 10% up to 40% fines

  • Sized (sz) contains 5% up to no more than 15% fines.

  • Washed (wsh) contains uniform sized rock that has been washed to remove any fines (only within Madison Granite).

What makes up minus or fines material?

Minus material is referred to as "fines". "Fines" consist of bits of rock smaller than the indicated size. Meaning that it has small particles that give the rock an appearance that it has dirt and smaller stones. So for 3/4" rock, for instance, fines would mean anything less than 3/4" all the way down to dust.
